| Cytokines released from antigen-presenting cells (APC) and Th1-, Th2-, and Th3-cells govern what isotype of antibody (Ig) the B-cell produces by selecting the selective promoters on the Ig heavy chain locus (to the right):
F. ex. if the B-cell is triggered in an environment with excess interferon gamma (IFN-gamma), the B-cell tends to produce IgG1 and IgG3 antibodies. If the B-cell is triggered in an environment with excess interleukin-4 (IL-4), the B-cell tends to produce IgE and IgG4 antibodies; of special relevance in IgE allergic diseases, such as asthma, rhinitis and contact dermatitis. |
